American Hero

I think of world war 2 when I look at this picture and when I read "war bonds". And all the people that died and was lost. So I'm therefore posting three pictures from the biggest U.S cemetery, Omaha Beach, located in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France.

WPA Posters: This happens when...

This happens when you talk to others about ship sailings:
Let's make New Orleans a safe port of departure

a. Response to the palette from the poster:
The colors for this poster are the brightest out of all three. And I think that the brightness is an indication of urgency.

b. Respond to the illustration style of the poster.
This poster, who is also simplified, is doing so more on highlights and shadows. Like how the face only has color where the shadow would lay on a face. And in how the colors of the water is created.

c. Respond to the persuasive technique of the poster.
The poster don't want people to talk about when ships are arriving/departing from the port in New Orleans, in case "unfriendly" ears would happen to be listening. And I think that the picture of a burning ship is a pretty convincing picture. Because who would like there port in flames.

WPA Posters: Birds

Birds of the world

a. Response to the palette from the poster.
These colors are a little brighter then the ones for "The curtain raises...", and they feel happier. My guess is that the colors are to help you feel excited about the message in the poster.

b. Respond to the illustration style of the poster.
These birds have been simplified to there bare shapes (circle, square and so on). And it looks to me like how it would look if you traced the birds in Illustrator.

c. Respond to the persuasive technique of the poster.
This poster wants me to buy a book with birds from all over the world. And the illustrated birds are there to convince you to buy it. I'm not sure how they are convincing. But I think when people see the birds they will think they are pretty and that they then would like to buy the book.

WPA Posters: The curtain rises...

The curtain rises...

a. Response to the palette from the poster.
The colors in this poster are earthy-tones, which are safe and comfortable tones. And the Yellow color draws attention to the poster.

b. Respond to the illustration style of the poster.
The poster has simplified the theater curtains, so they are almost only a silhouette.

c. Respond to the persuasive technique of the poster.
I think that the poster wants us to go see a show that's called "the curtain rises", since it says "plays and books in the current theater". But other than that I'm not sure. It is quite obvious that someone wants us to go to a theater at least.
